I recently replaced the rear-tail light assemply in the effot to fix a
lighting problem, instead it just cost me a few bucks and the problem
remains. The issue is that the rear running and reverse lights do not
work. The turn signals and brake lights work, but not the others
    previously mentioned lights. Any suggestions?

fuses? I recently looked closely at mine and realized that 3 of them
were burnt out, but appeared normal. When I pushed on the metal with
my finger - with the negative battery cable disconnected, the metal was
mushy feeling, and turned out to be fried.

you probably already checked em, but it's worth a shot...

other than that, it could be the wiring harness or?? seems like with
only two very specific lights out, though, it should be a fuse....
