    Hello all,

In my '86 240, as I slow down near to a stop (about 5 mph), I'm starting
to hear (and feel) the sort of clunk that you normally experience when
shifting between P-N-D. I assume the auto transmission is downshifting,
but is the clunk a bad omen? It's quite intermittent, and I don't know if
it's normal because I recently acquired the car. Just wondering? Thanks to
    anyone who volunteers a guess.

    I.S.

  2. Two likely culprits: dirty, gummy trans fluid, and/or a sticking
    kickdown
cable. There are, of course, other possibilities.
