cooler weather has brought out a front end squeek on the front end of my
'96 850....sounds like a strut tower needs silicon sprayed...really what
is sounds like is an old '56 chevy ball joint squeek that i used to hear
on my dad's chevy back in '59......up and down front end motion produces
the noise...more annoying than anything else...what's the short term
    solution? long term?

    regards

Typically it's the inner ball ends on the tie rods that scrunch-scrunch
over bumps. Ideally though you need someone to do knee drops on the
bumper as you crawl around under the car feeling for the source of the
noise. Could be sway bar bushings, or ball joints, the shock or the
upper strut mount. About the only thing you can't put you finger on
would be a tie rod inner joint.
