Recently my car won’t go into over drive. This only happens after the
car warms up and then it doesn’t work. After a while I get a burnt
oil smell. The weird thing is that it works when it is cool. My
transmission fluid is at the appropriate level. Could it be
contaminated fluid? Should I replace my coolant and tranny fluid? I
would like to fix the problem my self but don’t know how to diagnose
the problem. This began after I got in a very minor accident on the
front right fender. I don’t see how that could cause the problem
because it is so minor but I thought I would throw that in there.

    Thanks,

    Austin

Well the transmission cooler is located in the right side of the rad, so
I suppose it's possible the bump cracked the heat exchanger. This would
allow coolant and transmission fluid to mix, so that's the first thing
    I'd check.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)
