brake light issues

    Today I realized that when I turn on my headlights on my 86 volvo 740, my
    brake lights become inop. They work fine without the headlights though.
    Can anyone tell me how is this so and how can I fix it. I have already
    checked the light bulbs, fuses, and grounds.
