CrankCase Ventilation Nipple / Orifice Location

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by .................................................., Dec 24, 2005.

  1. Does anyone happen to know just where the location of the restrictor
"nipple" is on the '03 XC? You know, the orifice that limits the vacuum
to the crankcase. Something tells me that it's either at the end of that
hose that's in the middle of the intake manifold or at the top of that
hose that curves around and goes into the base of where the oil filler
cap is. I noticed yesterday that I have no suction at the oil filler
cap when the engine is idling. I don't know if this is because the
vacuum to the crankcase is ported and there's little or no vacuum at
idle. Something tells me that there's no way to rev the engine slightly
with only one person to find out whether it's ported or not what with
there bieng no linkage to activate. There isn't any oil vapor / smoke
coming out of the oil filler at idle when the cap is off but there also
isn't any vacuum when I put my hand over the oil filler opening or the
    dipstick tube.
And, yes, I've used Mobil 1 since the first oil change and have changed
oil every 3,500 to 4,000 miles since. 54K now.

I really have to break down and buy a Vadis disk.

    Thanks in advance.
