What you found is a broken ground wire the hinge is held on by 4 bolts or 3
bolts & a screw support the tailgate then remove the headliner just to gain
access to the mounting hardware then do the same on the tailgate remove the
mounting hardware you can attempt to repair the broken ground or you can
just replace the hinge if you opt for replacement try your local Volvo
dealer or IPD to see which has the better price
