How to check an ECU

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by David Plotner, Feb 6, 2004.

  1. I am thinking that I have a fried ECU? Is there a way to do a diagnosis on
it? It reads sensors OK (I can disconnect a sensor and throw an error), but
I have exhausted all the options I can think of as to why my car won't
    start.
    (yes, the same '99 V70).

    Thanks!

Have you checked all the fuses?
After you changed the O2 sensors, you cleared the computer, how did you do
    that?
You say there are no OBDII codes, do you actually read off the codes or is
it just not indicated on the Check engine light?

  3. I've checked the fuses (visually...still need to check with a meter).

I cleared the computer, and checked for codes with an Innova 3100 code
    reader

  4. Have you checked the fuel pump relay and the "RPM sensor" that tells
the computer that the engine is turning over?
