My husband wants to replace the Volvo CR-915 radio in our 1995 940
sedan with a new aftermarket radio-CD player. Can anyone tell us where
the separate amplifier for the CR-915 is located in the 940 so he can
attach the wiring harness for the new radio to it?

Appreciate any help you can give us.

    Thanks in advance!

    hi

the amp is under the dash, r/h side, on a right hand drive car. so on
left hand drive just reverse the info.

remove the under panel, and you will see it, a silver box, if you buy
a after market cable as well, this plugs into the original harness,
and the amp, so no cutting of cables, ect. i did this so it does work,
also bought a facia plate, the radio was fitted in about 15 minutes.

Colin, where did you buy the Volvo cable and fascia plate? I'm looking
to add an aftermarket radio to my 240.

Thanks, Colin! Appreciate your getting back so quickly.

EJ has opened up under the dash but has not been able to find the
"silver box" or anything of that description. About how big is this
box, and is it located more towards the steering column or the center
    console?

The people at Scosche (where we bought the two wiring plugs) say that
we have to disconnect the two plugs from the Volvo amplifier to remove
it from the circuit and connect those two plugs to the original wiring
harness, then to the new radio. Does this sound like the procedure you
went through to install your aftermarket radio?

If you are able to use the wiring harness that came out of the back of
the Volvo radio, which manufacturer provided that connecter, and did
that create any problems with the Volvo amplifier?

Thanks again for your help. Anything more you can give us will be
    greatly appreciated.

its near the column, all i had to do was disconnect the cable from the
amp. there is a din type plug and then a large multi plug, you may see
a round din plug going into the box, i left the amp in place, THIS IS
NOT USED ANYMORE as when i sold the car i put the volvo radio back in.
as you say in your msg, from the people at scosche, the procc. is
    correct.

one end of the 'new' cable goes into the new radio and the other end
goes into the original radio cable, them into the cable you remove
from the amp. all connectors are fitted to the new cable, just plug it
    in.

in the uk the cable cost approx £10.00 and the facia was about £15.00
from a company called halfords but most car acc. shops sell them

Thanks a million, Colin. I think EJ can take it from here. Again,
thanks so much for your help.

  8. Just one problem SusiK, you might have an integrated radio head which has
the amplifier integral to the radio. These radios have two multipin
connectors, an aerial socket and a DIN connector (CD). Connector A is for
the radio head and connector B is for the amplifier. As with the seperate
amplifier the radio head feeds the two in-dash speakers while the amplifier
    feeds the four door speakers.

    All the best, Peter.

Thanks, Peter. It turns out that apparently our sedan has just that
variety of radio. However, we also have a 1994 940 wagon, so EJ is
going to check and see if the radio in that one has an exterior amp and
would, therefore, accept the Scosche harness. It's good to know about
the integrated head, though, and we thank you for that information.

    Have a Happy New Year!
