Looking for help with my 240 Fuel Pump problems

    Hi there.
My car mechanic suggested that the problem with my '82 240 was the
fuel pump and so I ordered a used pump that was supposed to fit my
'82. After removing the old pump and looking at the new one, the
electrical configuration differed. Mine had two termials on the top of
the pump and the other one had one terminal with two connections
coming out of the side of the pump. I noticed that the part numbers
were different. Mine was 0-580-254-929 and the one I had bought was
0-580-254-996. I found out online that both pumps were used in the
'82. Is there anything I can do without having to reorder a different
pump? I also have a pump from my old '84 (0-580-484-022). Can I mix
and match a pump from one and a filter from the other?
While having all these issues, I though maybe there was a way to check
the original pump from my '82 and the wiring to determine that the
pump was in fact the issue as opposed to the wiring. How do I check
the pump and how do I check the wiring?
Thanks so much in advance for your help

Did you check the fuse? Mine was coroded and arcing at best so the fuel
pump was intermitant. On rainy days, it did not work at all..
