Mileage for a '98 V70 GLT+

Discussion in 'Volvo V70' started by Jeffrey C Honig, Jul 21, 2005.

  1. I've had a '98 V70 GLT since last September. I've tricked it out with
an IPD ECU upgrade, free-flow exhaust, sway bars, cross brace and
drilled rotors. It's a bunch of fun.

Usually I get mileage in the low 20s around town, seems that I have a
problem with putting my foot in it. ;-)

I've been surprised on some hiway trips, yesterday between fill-ups I
did 2 hours on four lane (75mph) and about 45 minutes on two-lane (up
to 65, but a bit windy with traffic) and ended up with 29.5mph. I'm
    impressed.

What is the typical hiway mileage for these cars?

    Thanks.

    Jeff

(depending on the map could help your MPG's on the road)

    , free-flow exhaust
(will help your MPG's on the road)

, sway bars, cross brace and
(will have almost no effect on MPG's, other then encouraging spirited
    driving)
    It's a bunch of fun.

    I bet!
My wife, bless her soul, drives her (even though the title say differently
:) ) 850--the same under the skin as your V70 (although hers is a sedan)
around town and gets 16-17mpg. On $2.649/gal super no less.

She is from the urban binary school of driving--a car has three
    states--accelerating, coasting, and breaking.

She is actually a hoot to drive with on back roads when she has to get
somewhere FAST, but on the road she makes me nauseous. In France she had a
car up to ~160 then in the middle of a superhighway (autoroute) for no
reason whatsoever she hits the binders and drops 40 kmph.

She does have very many fine qualities however. :D

It's a very pernicious downward spiral--I drive, she gets less and less
experienced in highway driving--although she will be happy to cruise ~80 mph
at the apex of her 25 mph speed delta curve LOL.

When I drive it on the road I get around 25-28 going 70-80 MPH on trips.

  3. Must be expensive to maintain, with all that breaking. And how does
    she stop? <G>

Our 01 V70 regularly gets 25 mpg in town and 28 on the highway...

    Point taken.
I guess that leaves her compression and the Fred Flintstone technique :)

    Poor rings and head!
