Frequency: sporadic, more likely in cold conditions

Makes rubbing noise when turning full left and occasionally full right,
    more so at low speeds.

Does this sound like a worn belt, rack, pump, or something else? The
    wheel is not physically rubbing.

In an earlier contribution to this discussion,
Assuming the lock stops on the new V70 are similar to those on the previous
model, they will be your culprit.

The steering is prevented from turning beyond full lock when a little arm on
the hub is arrested by a nylon pad. When driving on full lock, the arm rubs
on the pad as the suspension moves up and down. The noise is easily cured by
spreading some grease on the pad. It's easiest to do this by jacking the car
up and removing the front wheels - but you *can* do it without if you know
what you're looking for, and don't mind grovelling.
