Regular run-of-the-mill OBDII reset tools with not work to reset the
service light. Another Volvo dumbass move to try to get you to bring
the car to their overpriced service shops.
On my '96 850, I reset the service light FOREVER! Last time I had the
cluster out for bulb replacement (and you WILL if you own a Volvo), I
took out the service light bulb from the slot. I ended up using it to
replace one of the others that died! Now I service the car at my
intervals (5k oil/filter, all fluids once a year).
    Problem solved.

  4. In <>,

This works for the old S40 (pre-2004.5) - so I am guessing it will work
    on the V40 as well.

    a) Keep the odomoter button pressed while you turn the ignition key so
    that the lights come on.

    b) Continue to keep the odometer button pressed until the service light keeps
flashing, then release the odometer button.
Just make sure that when/if you sell your car, you let the new owner know
that the service light bulb has been removed (or replace it before selling).

You might be interested to know that a service light reset tool can be bought
    for less than $60.
