Turn on the mirror defroster, and check the voltage on the connectors to
    the mirror..
If they're at 12 volts, the grid in the mirror is busted, get a new
    mirror.. It's impossible to repair.

Same procedure on the seat actually :)

  4. I cannot find the connectors. I disassembled the side mirror, but the wire
    is going into a bundle of wires through the doorpost;
    I don't have a wiring diagram.
If I have to buy a new one, is this only the mirror (glass) itself or the
    complete unit? (the laquered unit?)

About the seat: I found two wires (black and red) going into the cushion --
I measered no voltage on these. Allthough I found the connector that is
coming out the floor, where I could measure 12 Volts. Then the wiring is
going into a bundle with other wires for the electrical memory seat. What is
between those to measuring points?? Is there a heating in the back as well
or only in the cushion underneath the driver?

    thanks

On my 850, when I tilt the mirror all the way inwards, I can see the two
connectors to the mirror (on the glass). On mine they show 12V when the
heating is turned on, but the mirror is not defrosted, so I've been told
that I should buy only the mirror, and that should work.
    On a 960, I don't know.

    About the seat: I don't know :(

I presume that you have checked all the fuses.
