Hello all, about two weeks ago I posted some comments and question about
the need to rebuild a transmission on my '96 850. My pre-estimates were
anything from $1,750 from a small tranny shop, to $ 4,000 from a Volvo
dealer. Other tranny shops were asking about $ 2,600 or $ 3,000.

Well, I took a chance and I went for the cheapest one and my total cost
with taxes came out $ 1,816.
I'm not sure if this shop ever rebuilted a tranny on a similar model
because they keept the car for about 10 days saying they were waiting for
parts. I started to get a little concerned at first, but at the end I got
    my car back.

I think the performance of the new tranny is about 90-95 % perfect. It
shifts very well from first to second gears, but it seems to snap a little
harder from either second to third, or from third to fourth, not sure which
one, but the speed is usually around 35 MPH when the shifting happen.

Cam anyone tell me if this small snapping can be easily fixed with some
adjustment without removing the tranny again?
I don't want the shop to keep the car for another week and make experiment
with my car, so I would like to find out before if this can be done or if I
should just forget about it. The owner of the tranny shop gave me one year
    warranty with no mileage limitation.

Thank you all for any response.

..Give it a chance to bed it use synthetic oil and reduce you wear and heat
    big time.

  3. I'm in the same boat with a '95 GLT. Right now it downshifts out of gear
during stops - when it's warmed up. And then gives an alarming shift into
gear upon acceleration. It also goes into R hard, this is according to my
mechanics (Carl Duke in Ft Collins). I have no reference about this, as I've
only had experience with Honda transmissions.

It's going to cost $665 labor. I've not priced a *new* transmission, but
they have one from a 95 with 76k on it, be a total bill of $1400-$1500 for
the used. They also have not seen this problem a lot(?) Their other customer
that had the same problems as me got another 2 years out of it.

One question I need to look into is can I get the turbo or even R
transmission installed for the different final drive ratio? Will it be
    noticeable, helpful?

Not the kind of job I would go with the low bidder on, especially if it is a
shop which is not familiar with that tranny.
