The bulb failure light on my 1984 242 is going on and off intermittently
yet their are no burned out bulbs. Any suggestions?

Also what is the typical gas mileage for a 4 cylinder 1984 242?

I get 20 mpg like clockwork. Is this typical?

    Thanks,

    Dave

This is common, the sensor is very sensitive. Check that all bulbs match
from one side to the other as it measures current draw differential and
if it's off even slightly the sensor will trigger. Also give the
sockets, bulb bases, and connectors a shot of DeOxit, and check the
    ground wires at the taillights.

Is the car automatic or manual? Around town or highway? 20mpg is a
little low for highway driving, but typical of around town, manual will
be 2 or 3 mpg higher than automatic in general.

Thanks James - the 20 mpg is around town. Highway is 22-23 depending
upon how fast I drive 75-80 mph

I'll try the de-oxit. I an antique radio collector so I'm very familiar
    with de-ox.

    Best regards,

ahh, then you understand. yeah, both sides of each circuit on the car
need to be pretty closely balanced for the thing not to trigger.
humidity, physical wiggling, etc. can vary corroded connections
    enough.

Me, 20 mpg pretty standardly. 1989,

  5. And replacing bulbs at different times with different brands can cause
problems. If all else fails, interchange the bulb or use 2 new ones.

I've found that cleaning all bulb bases and sockets usually takes care
of the flickering bulb out problem.
