Every time I go over uneven part of the road I have loose vibrating
metal sound from the rear top. I checked the spring bump stop and it
looks secure. I think it is the rear shock mount.
What are the symptoms of a defective shock mount?
What are the procedures to replace it?
Which Volvo is equipped with Nivomat shocks? How would I know if I have
    them?

  2. Sounds like the shock mount to me. New mounts are not expensive, a DIY job
really. The metal is not reinforced and the shock threaded rod wears it out
(its a harder steel). I tried finding washers that just sit in the mount's
well to try to reinforce it. Welding it would be better, but I don't have
    access to a welder.

I think mounts are 25 bucks each or so. Try fcpgroton.com

I've had the mounts separate (rubber to metal). They're easy to change,
you don't even need to lift the car. They're under the trunk floor
wood/carpet pieces just behind the base of the rear seat.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)
