volvo nav system...any good?

    what are folks opinions on the volvo nav systems...?
    i guess they are gps based...w/ocassional updates?
    is theie a $ monthly subscription fee? how often between
    dates? are the garmin hand held systems just as effective, if mounted
    in the right spot ?
