Volvo Radio Codes

I learned today that all new Volvos except the C series do not require the
user to program radio codes if the current codes are lost during a battery
change (or for whatever other reason).

The radio queries the cars computer which provides the stored code.

The radio will not work in any car that provides the wrong code - or lacks a
    new Volvo computer chip

    Cool design.

Pretty good idea... but who exactly wants a factory radio anymore? Seems
like the aftermarket units are more popular for car theives...

The problem I find, is that the OEM radios look excellent in a volvo.
Anything new is flashy, distracting, and out of place.

I personally would rather have an OEM head-unit, but the one in my 93 240 is
    slowly dying.

Totally agree, but since they only look proper in Volvo's they are not a hot
    theif target.

The one in the 960 is almost totally dead... it has AM reception, that's it.
I am hurting for a new radio, but nothing is good.
