Can I pull a trailer with my 740?

I dunno, we've got a number of 240's ranging from '79 to '86 and they're all
unibody's. Frame rails are integral to the floor pan and all that is welded
one piece with the rest of the body. The front fenders are the only
removeable body panels aside from the doors, trunk and hood lids. I was
under the impression the 140's were as well as all the rest back to at least
the early 50's. Most american cars had a separate frame much later.

Ah. Makes sense now. Neat how they made it capable of towing.

Makes you wonder why new vehicles aren't.(1000 lbs isn't towing, IMO)

Those are pretty trick little trailers. Since I am into streetrodding I like the
teardrop style. However in the NW camping with 3-5 people they are not terribly
practical. The extra room of Coleman is really nice when you have a rainy evening.

Then I'd look at a small 13-16 ft enclosed trailer. Rainproof and the
same weight as the travel trailer. A real bathroom and fridge, for
instance. Airstream makes a nice little model. Pricey, though - but
used, they are a fraction of their MSRP.

If you go down the list, several make tiny enclosed trailers,
which are superior, IMO, to a large tent trailer.

Nice, but no real large bed for the adults.

Not my cup of tea, but lighter.

Itty-bitty.

(searches more - gheez what a lot of data - <3000lbs dry weight is rough.)

The 2100 series ultralights are about 2800lbs. At 21ft long, it's
a big deal. Queen size bed in the 2104. So far, this looks like a
clear winner over a large tent trailer. The 2304 is nice as well - a
seperate room for the same weight. The 2108 seems to be the best floorplan,
but 2913 lbs is a bit much considering that's dry weight.

But all this time - I kept thinking - why not something small with
slideouts like a large tent trailer(based upon your weight, my guess
would be a 20ft+ tent trailer - likely a Coleman?)

The slideout expansdables seem to be just what you are looking for.
Basically a tent trailer with walls over the main areas. If it rains,
at least you can get cozy inside.
The SV-191 and 210 are nice. 2700 and 2800lbs.

The 191T is better, with an extra bed. 2535lbs. Looks like a winner.
The 180 and 190 - the links are broken, but they are half a ft narrower,
so they should be even lighter.(scans PDF)2300 and 2700lbs.
IMO, a slide-out would be better than a tent expansion, but YMMV.
18 ft long and 2300lbs is very attractive.

Next is Jayco. I like them - my grandparents had two of them and
they were very well made. They drove from Illinois to California
at least 6-7 times in each before they got a new one.

It's heavier than the Forest River ultralights, but is nice inside.

They make several types. Nothing says "cool" to me. Bland comes to mind.

Of these, the Forest River seem to be the best - lightweight, and you
can actually get a queen bed in a fully enclosed trailer(2104).
Same weight as the tent trailer you are considering. Of the
expandables, the Forest River Surveyor also is on top.

The 191T looks nice - it's light, has a second bed, and yet a double
inside bed as well(not a typical foldout on each end). The wide
floorplan also beats the rest - you can walk around in the center of it.
Evidently you can also get a bunk bed above the main one.
