Volvo UK radio codes

Its a Volvo 240 gle around about 1992 (K reg).
Just hit upon another problem, I phoned Volvo today and the VIN does not
exist on their database.

Look here to verify the VIN code as to what it represents:

Be sure that the vin on th car matches the one on the regestration
papers. it is easy, for example, to change an "I" to a "1."

On my Jaguar someone wrote the code under the hood and in the operators
manual.

Is there a default code for the radio at all? Is there anythiing we
can do to get around this other than buying a new radio?
